In 48 hours it will all be over. A number of people will win and a number will lose. And the commercials will go away and the yard signs will come down and the news headline writers will need to find another focus to energize some and infuriate others.
But no matter what …
Our country will most likely wake up to another morning on November 9th. If so, I will have something special to do for God that he has chosen for me to do. If not, because Jesus is my Savior, I will be in heaven.
A good number of those people who gave countless hours of service to candidates of their choice will still need to know and come to believe in someone much more important – Jesus. What plans am I making to be part of their search for him?
Because of what the Word of God says, I need to respect and obey the leaders that God has placed over me unless they put me in a position to have to choose between what they say and what I read in the Bible. For me, that is sometimes a challenge.
I need to pray for all of those elected and even for those who fell short of the needed votes. I need to pray they know their Savior and do God’s will in their duties. God loves all people. Can I do less?
I need to pray for this country no matter what. It certainly needs prayers at this time more than I can ever remember.
Our country and its elections are but a small part of this world. How many more millions will experience eternity-changing consequences without a Savior? I need to pray for them and do whatever I can to make sure they too have a chance to hear the Gospel.
Most important, no matter what, our only Mighty God tells us:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
Come on back – I will wait you
